Capital City of Tierra del Fuego Province. It was founded in 1894.

Has a 3,321 km area and 5,406 inhabitants (National Statistics Institute, 2002). Most of its inhabitants descend from the first people from Chiloe and Croatia than arrived to the island motivated by gold, hoping to find a better future.
